Students are to complete 5 hours of observations
and 5 of hands-on experience at a job site of their choice. Students will establish initial contact with a
supervisor at a site. The teacher will provide the student with a
letter for the supervisor, which explains CIBACS and the work
experience process. The teacher will also try to help students who
are unsure of where to go for an internship by providing a list of
previous business contacts for the program.
The student is to enlist the help of a mentor in
order to learn about the job and to help with writing evaluations of
the student's performance during the job experience. The mentor
should also be willing to guide the student in completing the
project.
It is essential that students behave in a
professional manner. They are representing CIBACS and Edison High
School; therefore, they should dress appropriately, arrive on time,
and work diligently.
The students will complete a work experience form
and work experience journals as evidence of completion of the
assignment. The students must also provide contact information to
the teacher.
An
important message to this year's students:
By
far, the most important advice that previous CIBACS students have
given about the work experience portion of the year is to choose a
job you love, one that you actually might want to do in the future.
If you choose a job just because you already know someone in the
field so it is the easiest to complete, you will be investing a
great deal of time in something which may not be exciting or
interesting to you. This experience will be useful to you only if
you choose to make it useful.
